Madara did eventually turn things around with the help of Hashirama. But things became twisted when Zetsu started to involve himself. Descending into madness and a saviour complex that involves countless sacrifices, torture, enslavement and eventually eternal imprisonment with a side taste of illusionary bliss on a global scale.

Danzo went through the pain staking effort of warping Kabutos memories. The moment he commits his act of fratricide, he becoming more unhinged and becomes a psychotic serial killer vent on destruction.

From the very start of the series you have children being used as canon fodder for war. Children are trained to fight and kill each other. From as young as six years old. Even in the Boruto era.
